Who are we?
Started in 1946, Sloco is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and one of the oldest companies in the U.S to continuously perform Gilbert and Sullivan, with an occasional side trip. In its history, Sloco has donated over $100,000 to area arts, education and health-related organizations.
Sloco is dedicated to bringing the highest quality of musical entertainment to our audiences. This is accomplished through our outstanding singers, actors and backstage crew. Our cast, which comes from all walks of life and is multi-generational, has commuted from as far as Ohio to be with us!
Sloco has performed all but one of the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, The Grand Duke. Our repertoire has included The Merry Widow by Franz Lehar, Of Thee I Sing by George and Ira Gershwin, Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss and Vagabond King by Rudolph Friml.
We have sung throughout CT and Mass. and with The Hartford Symphony, Farmington Valley Symphony, CT Concert Opera, Soni Fidelis, at the Governor’s Mansion, Festival of Trees and even on CBS This Morning!
While putting on the highest quality show, our aim is to do so while enjoying ourselves and sharing the camaraderie that comes from being part of the SLOCO “family”.
Many of our talented singers have gone on to further their careers at the Yale School of Music, Connecticut Opera, Opera North, Commonwealth Opera of Western Massachusetts, Chicago Lyric Opera and The Metropolitan Opera. And, for the two years before his untimely death, the venerable Martyn Green, Mr. Gilbert and Sullivan himself, was our artistic director.
