Join Us! The cast you see singing on stage is just the tip of the iceberg. Our productions would not be possible without the dozens of behind-the-scenes volunteers who sew, paint, build and sell our show (and have a lot of fun doing it!). The production "season" for "The Merry Widow" starts in October/November and ends the second weekend in March. Whether you have a lot of time to give, or just an hour or two a week, we’ll find something for you to do. Below are a few of the most essential committees. If you are interested in helping out on any of them, please e-mail Ellen Diamon for more information. SET CONSTRUCTION: Builds the set, helps to move it to Simsbury High School for performances, helps strike it after the end of the production. Heavy lifting not necessary, but you should be comfortable using a hammer and nail. SET PAINTING/DECORATION: Paints the set as it is being built, puts finishing touches on it at Simsbury High School during the week prior to opening night. Not physically demanding. COSTUMES: Coordinate wardrobe for cast, utilizing SLOCO’s costume collection as well as rentals from area theaters. Not a lot of sewing from scratch, but should be able to do repairs and minor alterations. Need someone to be on-hand for each performance to handle last-minute fixes. MAKEUP & HAIR: Sets up makeup tables for cast for final dress rehearsal and performances, helps cast apply makeup correctly. Arranges purchase and rental of wigs if necessary. Relatively brief time commitment, only the first two weekends in March. PUBLICITY: Finds creative and inexpensive ways to publicize our production through local media (weekly papers, town cable channels, etc.) and word-of-mouth. PROPS: Responsible for supplying anything the cast carries around with them as well as smaller parts of the set. Makes sure items are all present and accounted for during performances. No heavy lifting, but creativity and good organizational skills a plus. HOSPITALITY: Supplies the cast with snacks and coffee/tea at rehearsals, as well as backstage during performances. Good for trying out new recipes! |
