Franz Lehár's Austrian Villa

Franz Lehár was born in 1870 in what is now Komárno, Slovakia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. He was a prolific composer, but is best known for "The Merry Widow", which premiered in 1905. The royalties from "The Merry Widow" enabled Lehár to purchase a summer home in Bad Ischl, a playground of the rich and famous near Salzburg, Austria. Lehár died in Bad Ischl in 1948 and left the estate to the town on the condition that it become a museum in his name. These photos of Lehár's Bad Ischl estate were taken by Ed deGroat.
