The Simsbury Light Opera Company
began in 1946 as a small group of dedicated community performers who
decided to put on a show in a local church. Over the years, SLOCO has
done sixty-two years of performances and countless special event performances
throughout New England. Along the way they have brought up generations
of new audiences and begun numerous theatrical careers. Through their
charitable activities and fundraising they have donated over $30,000
to performance scholarships for local youth and various beneficiaries in the arts community, including the Greater
Hartford Academy for the Performing Arts, Connecticut Concert Opera, Connecticut
Public Television and The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
In addition, the group has
performed regularly with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra at the Talcott Mountain
Music Festival, The Pops and Classical Conversations, Connecticut Concert
Opera, Soni Fidelis and has appeared on "CBS This Morning." They have
also performed at various events such as Opening Night in Simsbury and
First Thursday in Hartford.
It all began more than 62 years ago, and the
story goes something like this.......
